Skittles Touch Cat

Changing up their “Taste the Rainbow” slogan, Wrigley Jr’s’ Skittles attacks the online masses with a simple change of words, “Touch the Rainbow.” The concept originally came from creative ad agency BBDO Toronto and was written by a man by the name of Chris Joakim. More after the break.
The ad works because it throws curiosity in your face. It’s the urge to follow the video and do what it says. With the words “No serious” and “Your finger is going to be sooo delicious” just scream “DO IT!” The resulting cuteness from the cat and the oddity from the man dressed as a cat go hand in hand with Skittle’s somewhat quirky and “makes-you-wonder” style, reinforcing the brand name. Because the video is short and promotes curiosity, it becomes a susceptible target for viral baton-pass. Friends will enjoy sending this to friends and their friends. This video, being short, full of curiosity, having a cuteness factor and advertising a product known for quirky ads over the internet allow it to be a successful viral video.
Here’s my question though, can something be gross in a “cute” way? Did you take your finger off when the man-cat appeared?
See all the quirky Skittles online interactive ads on Youtube and have a good laugh. Don’t forget to buy some skittles next time you’re in your local grocery store. Apparently you can stop crime with them!
Oh, and spoilers by the way.
In addition to this awesome skittles ad is a really well-thought out rainbow website powered by tons of Twitter tweets.
